Isn’t it peculiar that we happily take lessons for pretty much anything we want to take part in – dancing, golf, singing, tennis – everything under the sun – yet when it comes to bird hunting, we pick up a loaded gun and tote it around among our friends and loved ones (including our dogs) with no clue what we’re doing, yet don’t consider taking a training course beforehand! That’s how I started, anyway. Worse, I’ve started others the same way. Then one day I woke up with one of those vocation-type convictions that I wanted to teach people to hunt. Properly! Don’t we owe it to the birds … and fellow hunters, our dogs, and to the noble sport itself… to be the best we can be: conscientious, capable and humane hunters? At the very least, we owe it to ourselves.
